Qualitative Data Analysis

In this session we will look at what count as qualitative data and the diverse forms they can take, at the processes by which data are constructed and the implications of these for analysis, as well as at the task of analysis itself. The aim is to engage in some reflection about these matters through examining several kinds of data, how they are produced and what can be done with them. Unfortunately, it is not possible to provide recipes or procedures for qualitative data analysis, but I hope that the session will be of assistance to anyone planning or engaging in the production and analysis of qualitative data.

As with most other aspects of research methodology, there are sharply different views. This seminar will examine these issues.
