Video in the field: ethics and practicalities

Video offers a rich data collection method, with many opportunities to capture data impossible to gather in other ways. There are significant ethical and practical issues to consider and to resolve before, during and after recording. Various possibilities exist to analyse visual data and the method chosen should maximise value while minimising the time spent on working with collected material. This seminar will use a range of examples to discuss the different approaches to collecting video data, to analysing them and negotiating the ethics pathways involved.
