Professional biography

My background prior to working at the OU as an AL and now a Staff Tutor was initially in the English Probation Service and then Social Work in Scotland. My primary focus was within the criminal justice system although in the early 90s I was an accredited Mental Health Officer as well as a Practice Teacher. I also worked within a voluntary sector organisation that dealt with housing issues, alternatives to custody options for both serious offenders and diversion related schemes and restorative youth justice. My focus within HSC is with social care and social work.

Research interests

My research interests lie in desistance from offending and exploring discriminatory aspects related to recruitment and selection within the HSC field.

My current research project is exploring the support systems that are available for OUPRNP students from groups that are under-represented in the profession.

Teaching interests

I have taught on the previous Dip SW and on the SW degree programme at 2nd level.
