Professional biography

I have a background in the biological sciences, health and education. I have had posts in research related to biological and biomedical sciences, as well as working in health education, health promotion and public health. I have been involved in education for over 30 years, with experience spanning all levels and sectors. I currently work as a Senior Lecturer and Staff Tutor with the Open University Faculty of Health and Social Care. In my role as a Staff Tutor I manage Associate Lecturers teaching across a range of health and social care modules.

 

Research interests

My current research and scholarship interests include:

  • Interventions to improve the health and wellbeing of homeless people.
  • Metaphor and narrative in health, wellbeing and illness.
  • Approaches to student support in higher education, with particular interest in the role of coaching

Teaching interests

 I have made contributions to teaching at undergraduate level in health and wellbeing and at postgraduate level in healthcare improvement.

 

I have links with a range of international researchers and scholars in the field of metaphor and narrative.

WELS student wins Andrew Cornwell Award 2017

Victoria Cumming received her Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Social Work and was also given the Andrew Cornwell Award 2017 for the highest-performing graduate in the social work programme at the Open University's degree ceremony
