Professional biography

I am currently doing work on machine learning looking at the automation of the categorisation of learning activities in modules, working with Wayne Holmes.

Previous research projects that I have worked on include:

  • Situ8
  • Pelagios widgets - widgets to display information from ancient history collections
  • Cloudworks –  a website to allow people to share and collaborate on learning design
  • PePLE - an educational website for social workers
  • EU4ALL – an EU project related to the development of a framework to improve accessibility of lifelong learning – I worked on parts of the Moodle implementation of this framework
  • D4LD – a JISC-funded project focussed on enhancing the Sled IMS-LD player
  • Join-In – a JISC-funded project related to groups in courses in Moodle and LAMS.

I have also worked on internal projects such as the IET websites, the Academic Professional Development website, Educational and Professional Development Prospectus, a project planning system for the institute, a redesign of parts of the university’s Knowledge Network and a site about digital scholarship.

I have a DPhil in Mathematics and have taught at several universities, as well as having software engineering experience in the private sector. My technical skills include Python, PHP, Javascript, HTML/CSS and SQL and I have extensive experience of full-stack web development.
