Professional biography

Paulette Johnson is currently a Staff Tutor working in HSC and social work at the Open University. Paulette is also the Academic Lead for social work admissions (England). As a social work practitioner Paulette worked with adults in criminal justice services and has an extensive career in management and senior management roles within this area of work.  Paulette moved into post compulsory education in 2013 after supporting students within a workplace setting throughout her career.

Research interests

Paulette is currently involved in a research project 'Social Work For Everyone' funded by the Degree Apprenticeship Development Fund which aims to raise awareness of the benefits of the Social Work Degree apprenticeship.  The project team are developing resources to support employers and potential applicants from any academic institution in being able to inform, attract and support potential applicants from underrepresented groups. Paulette is currently involved with the research team in developing publications in this area.

Teaching interests

Paulette has a work and teaching background in drug and alcohol addiction and recovery, and was previously Programme Manager for the BA (Hons) Addiction Studies at the University of Leeds. Paulette continues to pursue this interest and still supports this client group in her capacity as Chair of the management committee, Bradford Cyrenians. This is a role that she is committed to and has undertaken for the last 6 years.

Paulette currently supports the delivery of the social work programme at the OU covering the north of England, as well as being the lead cluster manager for a public health module (K311), and supports the delivery of module K101 (Introduction to Health and Social Care) in the north.

The OU has been awarded Carer Positive ‘established' status by Carers Scotland.
