Professional biography

Having enjoyed over 25 years of senior management experience in the pharmacy sector, most recently as commercial director for a private retail pharmacy chain, Richard Lowe is currently a senior lecturer at the Open University. 

His role includes overseeing postgraduate professional development programmes at the Open University, which include the Non-Medical Prescribing and Advanced Clinical Practice prgrammes.

Previous academic positions include a senior lecture position at De Montfort University (DMU) and the University of the West of England (UWE) and more recently associate professor at London South Bank University (LSBU). Specialising in non-medical prescribing education, his current research interests include knowledge brokerage and the theory - practice gap (professional praxis).


OU student wins Care Apprentice Award

Heather always wanted to be a mental health nurse, having worked as a carer for a number of years. When she was given the chance by her employer to study for an Open University course in Health Care Practise, she grabbed the opportunity. Earlier this year, Heather was awarded the Care Apprentice Award at the National Care Awards, as Carers Week begins, she talks about her journey with The OU.
