Research projects

Our research projects are organised within four distinct groups:

Childhood studies

Research projects developed through partnership with schools, playgroups, maternity hospitals, youth groups and other users of research and engage with the diversity of childhoods.

Education futures

Projects framed by a variety of theoretical and methodological approaches, exploring teaching and learning and learners’ identities in homes, nurseries, primary and secondary schools, and higher education and work-based settings.

Health, wellbeing and social care

  • Ageing and later life
  • Children, young people and famillies
  • Death, dying and bereavement
  • Living with disability and long term conditions
  • Reproduction, sexualities and health

Languages and applied linguistics

Research that views language as a social and cultural phenomenon and a powerful resource for learning across the lifespan. Our research projects reflect that perspective, and encompass all areas of Modern Languages, English Language Studies and Applied Linguistics.
