The Open University’s professional programmes in Nursing and Social work enable students to engage critically with the knowledge base while developing the skills and values required for effective practice. Our curriculum is developed by leading academics, working closely with professionals and people who use services. Work-based learning is delivered in partnership with employers, and throughout their studies, students make practical and intellectual links between the teaching provided by The Open University and their own practice and workplace.
Students develop underpinning knowledge and understanding by engaging with online module materials, supported by a tutor who facilitates their learning through individual and group interaction, marks their assignments and provides developmental feedback. Practical and professional skills are developed through work-based learning placements supported by qualified on-site mentors/practice educators, and assessed by portfolio.
Our professional programmes meet all applicable regulatory and professional body requirements and are approved by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (Nursing degrees), Health and Care Professions Council (Social Work degree in England), Scottish Social Services Council (Social Work degree in Scotland) and Care Council for Wales (Social Work degree in Wales).
