Professional biography

I am a Lecturer in Online Teaching in the Institute of Educational Technology. My role has a particular focus on writing course content and evaluating microcredential courses.

My background is in adult nursing, health visiting and community development. I joined the Open University in 2003 as an associate lecturer. I have extensive experience of tutoring students studying health and social care and in supporting colleagues to develop their skills in inclusive online teaching. I am a Senior Fellow of the HEA.

Research interests

My research interests include online communities and digital pedagogy. My doctoral research used voice-centred relational method (VCRM) to analyse student narratives of experiences of synchronous online tuition in health and social care.

Teaching interests

I chair the microcredential course HZFM882 Online Teaching: Evaluating and Improving Courses.

I currently supervise one EdD postgraduate researcher

  • Student voice: An active ingredient for the design of effective online and distance higher education

I have managed health and education programmes for refugees and host communities in Tanzania.
