Our research into the teaching and learning of languages in online and distance contexts is informed by sociocultural and constructionist theories, and focuses on the real life contexts of language teaching. It has led to the development of an online platform for enabling teacher training at a distance. The international team of the DOTS project has created pedagogical and technological resources for language teachers, including those working freelance and part-time. The More DOTS project extends this approach to include informal, non-traditional, learning settings (e.g. volunteers working with migrants). The project brings together the expertise of specialists in language teaching and learning, teacher training, and online technology and collaboration.
The DOTS website results from the ECML's (European Centre for Modern Languages) Empowering Language Professionals programme "Developing online teaching skills". DOTS materials for language mentors and professionals are freely available on the ECML website, and are supported by a Moodle workspace. For further information see
