Our students

Studying is hard work but so rewarding. Being involved with other students and hearing their stories is inspiring.

Sarah Jones
OUSA President, BA (Hons) Primary Education Studies

To have three of the young people I cared for with me at my graduation, whooping and cheering as I went on stage, and standing proudly with me in my official photo is undoubtedly the proudest moment of my life so far.

Carolyn Kelly
BA (Hons), Childhood and Youth Studies graduate

I’m working with kids that always bring a smile to my face, I’m doing sport and games which I love and it’s a good life. Without the OU and without the degree, that wouldn’t be a possibility for me at this time.

Ricky Skene
OU BSc (Hons) Sport, Fitness & Coaching Studies

During my studies, I have suffered more bereavements and more bouts of ill health and there have been times when this adversity has caused me to consider effecting a cessation of my studies. However, thanks to the help and advice that I have received I have always been able to overcome such adversity.

John Curd
OU BSc (Hons) Sport, Fitness & Coaching Studies

There were challenges to overcome on my journey, it was not an easy path because at that time there were very few black, female, head-teachers. However, I’m proud that I have been able to represent my community in the way that I have, because it would have been so easy to have given up in the early days when it was hard. Even now only 2.8% of head-teachers are from BME backgrounds.

Marva Rollins
OU Masters in Education Studies graduate

I’d recommend OU study wholeheartedly to anyone considering it. Studying with the OU opens doors and there are no barriers, it’s open to everyone. You’re in control of your studies and can work at your own pace. The OU has made a significant difference to my life and now I want to help change other people’s lives.

Adele Rennison
OU Masters in Childhood and Youth Studies

Since studying for my degree part-time with the OU I have gained new skills and challenged my own practice in working with children. Studying with the OU has given me the flexibility and ownership of my learning and I have felt immense support from the university and I would definitely recommend it!
