An Introduction to quantitative data analysis

In this session new will explore the core concepts of quantitative data analysis. Quantitative research methods are concerned with collecting and analysing data that is structured and can be represented numerically, with the goal of accurate and reliable measurement that allow for statistical analysis. This session will discuss the rationale of attempting to measure information related to the social realm and the benefits and drawbacks of doing so. The session will introduce different types of variables, scales and data and the type of research questions they can address. The session will also introduce basic forms of data analysis such as mean, standard deviation, median and normal distributions and discuss the importance of these concepts to making claims from numerical data.
