Profile summary

Professional biography

I am a staff tutor in the Faculty of Education, Childhood, Youth and Sport and have been since 2006, initially based in R05 East Midlands Region. Having done a PGCE and some secondary teaching, I was well equipped to work within FELS (now WELS). My staff tutor role has always been complemented by my work as an Associate Lecturer in FASS and I have contributed to the production of human geography modules, authoring course guides, learning companions (DD205), writing descriptors for visually impaired students and acting as a critical reader (DD213). Having a foot in both WELS and FASS gives me a unique overview and interdisciplinary understanding.
I have tutored at all study levels and have a keen interest in student transitions through the study levels, as well as an interest in widening participation and access. This was developed through my chairing of the Access module Y032'People, Work and Society' and my authoring of Block 4 material on spatial inequality and child migration. These areas remain key interests and are of relevance in both ECYS and FASS. Spatial inequality and children's use of space is an area I would like to continue to work on and is of current relevance in the context of the pandemic and the government's 'levelling up' agenda.
