‘Children’s Experiences of reading, writing and learning in a West London School’ Lucy Henning from the Open University will discuss her experience of conducting a long-term participatory project exploring young children’s experiences of being taught to read and write in school from Reception to Year 2. The talk will focus on the possibilities and challenges of the research, including the ethics of being a ‘professional stranger’ in a schooled space.
Louise Pay CRC Practitioner Research Award Recipient- will discuss the findings and her experiences of her qualitative study ‘Exploring the experiences of primary school children with autism who present with limited spoken language and their preferences for social engagement.’ The study explored the experiences of primary school-aged children with autism who present with limited spoken language and their preferences for social engagement, revealing how children’s social motivations can help researchers and educational practitioners develop new ways to encourage and develop social engagement strategies.
Sarah Foster CRC Practitioner Research Award Recipient- will discuss the findings and her experiences of her research project ’A Mosaic approach to listening to autistic pupils’ perspectives on, and experiences of, the sensory environment in mainstream primary schools’. This study uses a neurodiversity/neurodivergence paradigm to consider sensory differences - both strengths and challenges - within a particular (school) environment.
