CSGD wins funding to improve children’s literacy

The Centre for the Study of Global Development (CSGD), has been awarded a research grant of £108,000 by the mc2h foundation. CSGD will explore what activities parents, caregivers, and community groups do to engage children and ignite their interest in reading in Nigeria and Ghana.

The mc2h foundation envisions a world where all children in Africa can read and write by age 10. This research will contribute to the foundation’s efforts to identify and promote effective practices that improve children’s literacy development in Africa.

Dr Margaret Ebubedike, the research's principal investigator said, “I look forward to gaining insights into how local practices support children's literacy in some of the most rural communities in Ghana and Nigeria.”

Dr Eric Addae-Kyeremeh, Prof Kwame Akyeampong, Felicia Boateng, Portia Dery, and Dr Jane Magaya from CSGD will work with Dr Ebubedike on this research.
