Kwame appointed co-chair of Global Education Advisory Panel

Professor of International Education and Development, Kwame Akyeampong, from the School of Education, Childhood, Youth and Sport, has been appointed co-chair of the Global Education Evidence Advisory Panel (GEEAP). Hosted by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office and the World Bank, the panel will review and assess evidence-based and cost-effective practices to improve education outcomes and help policymakers in low- and middle-income countries make decisions.

With a background in working with African education systems, from political economy of reform, teacher training to complementary basic education, Professor Akyeampong will play a leading role in the panel.

Professor Akyeampong, commented:
“I am delighted to be appointed co-chair of the Global Education Evidence Advisory Panel. The GEEAP plays an important role in ensuring that the best global evidence in education is assembled for low-and middle-income countries to deliver quality education. Education systems everywhere face unprecedented challenges and the opportunity to co-chair a panel of experts to review and assemble evidence on the best ways to tackle them is one that I look forward to.”

Professor Akyeampong will share co-hosting responsibilities with Professor Abhijit Banerjee, International Professor of Economics at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The panel is made up of 10 other experts in education, including economists, educationalists, psychologists, and policymakers.
