The death of Brian Rix in August 2016 brought to an end a more than 30 year association with The Open University. It was his radical idea in the early 1980s to develop an OU course open to everyone involved in learning disability, bringing knowledge, skills and best practice to as wide and diverse an audience as possible, in order to improve the lives of people with learning disabilities.
The RIX Research and Media team at The University of East London work regularly with the Social History of Learning Disability (SHLD) Research Group. They have produced this short video featuring the voices of the people with learning disability with whom Lord Rix has worked over the years. They celebrate his life and achievements and share their experiences of working with Brian as his colleagues.
