The latest addition to The Open University’s selection of nursing programmes has received approval from the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC).
The innovative and new blended adult nursing degree will be delivered by the OU in partnership with Middlesex University and the University of the West of England, providing a direct-entry route for individuals in London and the South West region looking to kick-start their nursing career.
Applications for the first February 2021 cohort of the BSc (Hons) Nursing (Adult); (in partnership with Middlesex University and the University of the West of England) close on 30 November 2020. Going forward, the programme will be available every February.
Developed as part of a new Health Education England (HEE) initiative, the blended adult nursing partnership programme will provide an alternative route for those who might not have had the opportunity to follow traditional routes into nursing. Focusing on a flexible delivery approach, students who are accepted onto the programme will be able to fit study around their work and personal commitments.
The academic content will be delivered via the OU’s Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) and makes use of our new Future Nurse Curriculum. The practice-based elements of the programme will be delivered by our partners in their respective locations, with students having access to their skills labs and educational technology. Using a combination of learning approaches supported by innovative digital technologies, the programme will reduce barriers to entry and encourage individuals from a diverse range of backgrounds to enter the nursing profession.
The Open University has been delivering qualifying nursing programmes since 2002. Working in partnership with employers, over 2,000 nurses have qualified with us with the support of their employer to complete the practice learning elements under supervision in their workplace. The new partnership route with Middlesex University and the University of the West of England will allow the OU to extend its flexible nursing offering to those who are not currently working in an appropriate setting, or those whose employer may not be able to provide the support required.
