Fay Dudson, Open University nursing graduate, has won the Student Innovation in Practice Award at this year’s Student Nursing Times Awards.

The award ceremony recognises those who consistently go above and beyond in their field, honouring the outstanding achievements of the upcoming generation of nurses and their mentors.

The judges said: “Fay truly embodies the essence of a Primary Care Nurse—dedicated, compassionate, and deeply connected to the needs of her local community. Her innovative work with marginalised populations reflects a deep commitment to tackling health inequalities and improving access to care.

“Fay impressed the judging panel with her authenticity and the remarkable personal and professional growth she has shown throughout her nursing journey. A shining example of nursing leadership in action."

Fay reflected on her win:

“I was so surprised to hear I had been nominated for an award. I felt privileged to meet and be in the same room as so many inspirational people. It never crossed my mind that I could win, so when they called my name out at the ceremony, I was speechless (which was a first).

I’m still shocked but also immensely proud as are my family, friends and colleagues. The support and well wishes I have received has been overwhelming and I couldn’t be more thankful.”

Fay studied for her BA (Hons) Nursing degree apprenticeship with The Open University, graduating in April. She was nominated for the award by her OU tutor, Laura Courty.
