​Prestigious national appointment for Professor Teresa Cremin

Professor of Literacy in the School of Education, Childhood, Youth and Sport, Teresa Cremin, has been appointed as ‘Reading Expert’ for the English Hubs Council.

Professor Cremin was appointed following a national call by the English Hubs Council - part of the Department for Education (DfE) - for a leading expert in reading to help inform their programmes to improve the teaching of language and literacy to young children in England.  

The English Hubs Council provides advice to the DfE on the scope and direction of the English Hubs programme and the work of the English Hubs Training Centre to ensure change and improvement in the teaching of language and literacy.

Teresa has already been involved in training the 170 literacy specialists in Hub schools on motivating young readers and fostering a love of reading. These senior leaders work with over 4000 supported schools nationally to improve outcomes, with an emphasis on the most disadvantaged children.

A former teacher, and teacher-educator, Professor Cremin is a leading and internationally recognised expert in her field. In her capacity as Professor of Literacy at the OU she is committed to developing children’s Reading for Pleasure (RfP) and enhancing social justice. To date, in addition to writing 35 books and over 100 research papers, she has spearheaded a movement of over 4,000 teachers and over 200 reading groups across the UK through her RfP knowledge-sharing platform researchpedagogies.org.
