Ibali at the ICERDA Conference in Cape Coast, Ghana

Ibali was represented at the International Conference on Education Research for Development in Africa (ICERDA2023) held in Cape Coast, Ghana, from September 19th to 21st. Ibali researcher, Jennifer Agbaire, gave a presentation titled, ‘Preparing teachers for learners’ inclusion: insights from a storytelling research workshop in Nigeria’.  Jennifer’s presentation focused on the key findings from our recent work with teachers in Nigeria alongside emerging reflections.  She talked about how the teachers expressed their lived experiences of the education system both as former students and practicing teachers, and how they linked these to their agency, motivations and capacity in relation to supporting diverse learners’. Jennifer also talked about how composite storytelling facilitated a reflective space and joint learning among the teachers and the Ibali facilitators.  The conference participants at the session were keen about the extended view of educational inclusion that was proposed in the presentation as well as the creative approach to working with teachers that was described.
