We held the first of our series of planned learning, impact and stakeholder engagement events for the Ibali project on 14th November 2023! The event took place in Edo State, Nigeria, and brought together policy makers, teacher educators, curriculum developers, school leaders and a range of other stakeholders. It started with an interactive panel discussion on the meanings of educational inclusion and the roles of different stakeholders in supporting and enhancing teachers’ inclusive practice in Nigeria. A speech by the Permanent Secretary of the Edo State Ministry of Education on the state’s policies and initiatives for educational inclusion was followed by a story screening session. In this session, stakeholders actively engaged with experiences and key messages captured in the digital stories and storybooks produced by Ibali participant young people and teachers. Attendees were then involved in small- and big- group activities in which they reflected on their current practices, discussed existing challenges and presented practical and creative ways forward. Attendees expressed several positive take-aways from the day. The event was facilitated by Ibali team members Jennifer Agbaire, Faith Mkwananzi and Jane Nebe.
