I am a lecturer in Spanish in the School of Languages and Applied Linguistics. I have experience teaching Spanish, Catalan and Linguistics in higher education institutions in Spain, China and the UK.
My research interests include sociolinguistics, and language learning and teaching. I am currently working in a project on language attitudes and ideologies towards Catalan and Spanish among university students living in Barcelona. I am also studying students' motivations to learn Catalan outside of the Catalan-spaking regions.
I have worked in the following research projects:
- Conciencia lingüística crítica y agencia de los hablantes: investigación-acción para la igualdad sociolingüística (EquiLing) (2020-2024). Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation. PI: Dra. Luisa Martín Rojo.
- Análisis léxico basado en corpus y su incidencia en los diccionarios (2013-2016). PI: Dra. Janet Decesaris. Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness (FFI2012-37654)
- La previsión del futuro de las comunidades bilingües en contextos multilingües: el caso catalán aquende y allende nuestras fronteras (2011-14). (FFI2010-16066/FILO). PI: Dr. Raquel Casesnoves. Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation
- Corpus Project (2010-12). PI: Dr. M. Teresa Cabré. Institut Universitari de Lingüística Aplicada (IULA)
Students are the center of the learning process and I combine teaching approaches to best adapt to their needs. I use collaborative learning to promote students’ retaining and responsibility, communicative and task-based methods to motivate learners, as well as intercomprehension and metalinguistic strategies to help students become plurilingual speakers.
