Professional biography

Rhiannon is a Lecturer in Education (Inclusion) at the Open University. She has ten years’ experience as an education researcher, specialising in research on questions relating to student learning, teacher capacity, and teacher professional development in lower and middle income countries, including India, Ethiopia, Vietnam, Nigeria and Ghana. Most recently Rhiannon has undertaken mixed methods doctoral research at the University of Bristol, examining some of the factors affecting teacher motivation, professional knowledge and classroom practice in two states in southern India. She has previously worked on the Young Lives study (based at University of Oxford), and the Open University’s TESS-India and TESSA programmes. Rhiannon’s current research interests focus on preservice teacher training, teacher motivation, and measures of teacher ‘effectiveness’.

Rhiannon has taught on undergraduate and postgraduate education modules at the Open University and face-to-face higher education institutions. She is currently module team chair for the redevelopment of the Open University’s Masters in Education Stage 1 Inclusive Practice module (EE844). She is also an associate lecturer on an undergraduate module on comparative and international education (E309).
