Professional biography

I have worked as a mental health nurse and nurse educator in a variety of roles and services. Ranging from secure adult male mental health services to community Child and Adolescent teams.

The main focus of my clinical work has been with children and young people. I have worked with young people in both hospital and community settings in several areas around the country. I have also worked internationally, leading in the development of children and young people's mental health services for Her Majesty's Armed Forces.

I am currently a senior lecturer and central academic for the nursing courses. I have a keen interest in teaching and ensuring the quality of nurse education. I have worked as a nurse lecturer and programme lead at other HEIs and I am Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Research interests

My research interests are many, and I have a focus on youth and young people and their experiences of mental health services. I am interested in the development and impact of youth and adult mental health services and their development from a nursing perspective.

I have published on the use of OSCE in mental health nurse education and I am keen to explore alternative and practice based methods of assessment in training.
