Welcome to the Centre for Society, History and Learning Disabilities

The Centre for Society, History and Learning Disabilities is focused on research that matters to people with learning disabilities, their carers, relatives and advocates. The Centre is co-led with people with learning disabilities. At the heart of the Centre’s approach is a recognition that people with learning disabilities are experts on their own lives and should be at the centre of research that is about them. The Centre is based in the Faculty of Wellbeing, Education and Language Studies at The Open University. It is internationally recognised, and has fostered partnerships with universities, advocacy and provider organisations across Europe, the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Japan.
