This is a video that helps with the bogus callers issue. Telesafe 2 is video resource pack on safety produced by The Telesafe Association and Values Into Action. This gave people the opportunity to talk about ID cards, door chains and keeping safe when somebody you don't know knocks at your door. The video also covered harassment on the street and on buses.

Principles of person centred care: part 1

Designed exclusively for those providing care within the care home setting, this two part title introduces carers to the values that underpin person-centred care. It assists them to develop their understanding of how principles of care should be reflected in their day-to-day practices by exploring the values of individuality, rights, choice, privacy, independence, dignity, respect and partnership. It goes on to look at the right service users have to take risks in their lives and how the care plan and risk assessment can assist to protect individuals from harm.

Communication and challenging behaviour

Using interviews with two parent carers, and with specialist input from Peter McGill (Senior Lecturer in Learning Disability at the University of Kent at Canterbury Tizard Centre), this 40 minute video gives a basic introduction to challenging behaviour associated with severe learning disabilities. The video has been produced for parents and carers of individuals with severe learning disabilities and challenging behaviour, or anyone wanting to understand what it can be like for the families involved.

A warm welcome

A £1.54 million grant will enable another 70 children in Wales to access short breaks. However, there are 460 children in Wales still waiting for short breaks – and many more who are not even on a waiting list. This money is a good starting point and it is hoped a down payment for the future development of short break services in Wales. More carers will be needed to meet the increased demand, and the DVD has come at the right time to inspire new short break carers.

Principles of participation

The video explores how service user and carer participation has become an increasingly important part of how adult social care services are developed and delivered. The video uses the example of how Manchester adult social care services are involving service users and carers. The film highlights the jigsaw model of participation, this connects four aspects of participation: Culture, Structure, Practice and Review. Raising concerns and whistleblowing

There are some useful tips for people considering reporting a concern, and it is helpful to compare whistle-blowing itself with the daily business of raising concerns and giving feedback. Those appearing in the scenarios were service users and staff. The scenarios could encourage further discussion in training groups. This CD Rom may persuade a new carer to report possible abuse.

It looks at the different ways that users and carers are involved in the course, the importance of the university providing appropriate training and support, the benefits students get from contact with users and carers and what users and carers gain from the experience. Dementia: participation in development of dementia care

Having been diagnosed with dementia at the age of 70, Brian and his wife June now actively participate in planning dementia care services in Gloucestershire. The film illustrates the range of activities they are involved in - developing a 'Living Well Handbook', giving talks and helping shape training tools. It also highlights how commissioners, support organisations and carers all have a role to play in enabling the person with dementia to share their knowledge and experience for the benefit of others.
