Nursing Research Group

About us

Welcome to the Nursing Research Group website. Nursing is a key professional programme within the Open University, underpinned by research-based knowledge. The Open University is the largest provider of part-time nursing education in the UK. The OU is in the top 6% of Nursing and Midwifery Council approved nursing education providers.

The Nursing Research Group consists of academics and practitioners from the nursing team who undertake research into nursing and related healthcare topics. Our research focuses on: professional education and continuing professional development; the quality and impact of nursing and healthcare provision; the experiences and perspectives of nurses, the multidisciplinary team and patients/service users, families and carers.

We use a range of methodological approaches in our studies including qualitative, quantitative, mixed methods, participatory and online methods. Many of our academics are actively involved in contributing to national nursing initiatives, professional regulation and policy developments, for example, via the Nursing & Midwifery Council and the Council of Deans for Health.
