Seminar 2 - Access, Choice, and Time to Read: a Reader-Driven Perspective on Social Justice

A second on-line seminar place on 12 May 2021 with a keynote presentations from Professor Emerita Margaret Mackey (University of Alberta, Canada) entitled ‘Access, Choice and Time To Read: A Reader-Driven Perspective on Social Justice’

This presentation was followed by discussion in break-out rooms focusing on key questions raised by Prof Mackey’s presentation: Where should primary energies be directed?

To campaign for public and school libraries?
To sustain projects that supply books to children?
To improve backup support systems for children most at risk?
To find ways to empower children and parents to create and/ or join campaigns?

These discussions were followed by a presentation from Katie Bareham (CEO, Doorstep Library) on the amazing work of Doorstep Library as they place books into the hands of young children and families and spread the joy of reading.
