
Klaus-Dieter Rossade is Executive Dean for the Faculty of Wellbeing, Education and Language Studies (WELS), one of four Faculties at The Open University, with over 33,000 students and some 1,700 staff. He is Professor of Distance Learning and Leadership and was Director of the Assessment Programme from 2019-2023. He has led many change programmes related to assessment, qualifications and student success, and has chaired governance committees, quality reviews and validation panels for OU validated partners such as the Arab OU. Internationally, he has represented the university on the Supervisory Board of the European Association of Distance Teaching (EADTU) since 2022 and chaired a Special Interest Group on Online Assessment for them.
He brings to all his work more than 40 years of studying, researching, and teaching literature, culture, language and leadership and ideology in Higher Education at Freiburg University (Germany), University College London and, for the last 25 years, at The Open University. He is also a coach and leadership communication consultant. He started his professional life as a sound editor for Radio and Television Public Broadcasting in Stuttgart and remains fascinated by spoken words, recorded and artistically manipulated, for everyone to hear and appreciate.
