Summary

This section has provided an overview of the way in which the pre-registration nursing degree programme is organised. You should now have an understanding of the sequencing of theory and practice modules, the number of hours attributed to theory and practice throughout the programme and the ways in which your student’s theoretical knowledge and understanding is assessed. The assessment in practice is covered in the fourth section of this induction.

You have had the opportunity to review different module resources, and to consider how these resources help to direct and support your student’s learning and development. We hope you will have gained an appreciation of how carefully the programme is structured. Although your student is working at a distance from their tutors, this structure helps to ensure steady progress and appropriate learning in both theory and practice.

Finally you have been encouraged to explore the OU Nursing Partners website, which has a wealth of information to support you in your specific role as a mentor to an OU nursing student, but can also support your wider professional development needs too. We hope you will become a regular user of the website and will find it a helpful resource.
