It is estimated that there are 800,000 people with dementia in the UK today. Care for people with dementia is one of the most pressing challenges for the health and social care sector today and yet remains an area of poorly developed skills and understanding.
Focusing on developing a person-centred approach to dementia care, this course covers both the medical and physiological dimensions of dementia as well as issues of identity, social relationships and choice making. As recent press reports have suggested, organisational culture and service facilities also shape the quality of care and students develop a critical understanding of how to address these issues.
Employers sponsoring a group of practitioners on this course can also access a complimentary face-to-face workshop through the Alzheimer’s Society.
